INSPIRATIONAL
WOMAN AWARD

This year's International Women's Day campaign will be an opportunity to celebrate local women who have made a difference in the community. This year's International Women's Day theme is Inclusion.

 

In the spirit of celebrating International Women's Day, we're asking YOU to nominate someone you think deserves to win this year's Inspirational Woman Award. We want to recognize a female leader in our community who has made a difference when it comes to progressing Inclusion.

The nomination period will run up until January 31st, 2024. Nominations will be narrowed down to a Top 3 and the winner of the award will be a result of a poll voted on by the public. The winner will be announced at our International Women's Day EmpowerMarket event on Saturday, March 9 and will receive a $500 cash prize and trophy.

 

In addition to the awards program, the event will feature local female vendors, live music, a fashion show, door prizes, live food station, cocktails and more. By attending this event, you will be showing support for all of the talented local women taking part, as well as our charity partners. 

Nominee requirements

  • Must be, or identify as, a woman

  • Be a Canadian Citizen and resident of Kingston and the surrounding area

We are looking for stories of women who:

  • Have gone above and beyond to encourage inclusion. This could be as an advocate/activist in the community, in the workplace/ as a business, etc.

  • May have faced and overcome adversity and are pushing for a more inclusive world for women and/or other marginalized communities

We are looking for women who demonstrate the following traits:​​

  • Empowerment

  • Cognizance

  • Courage

  • Passion

Nominate an Inspiring Woman

 We are relying entirely on your nomination description to determine how well the nominee meets the above criteria and why they deserve the award. Please include as much detail and evidence as you can about the individual you are nominating. If selected, the nomination description you submit will be edited into a biography-style description and published for people to read and vote on to determine a winner.

THE NOMINATION​

The best nominations are those that tell a story and capture the characteristics of an extraordinary woman. Start with a clear and specific statement that outlines why your nominee is worthy of the 2024 Inspirational Woman Award. Strengthen your nomination by painting a picture of the person. Tell us how they demonstrate the points and traits listed above. Use real-world examples that show why your nominee is an inspiring role model. We want to know the stories of their life and the impact they have made. Here are some questions to ask yourself as you write your nomination.

  • Tell us about your nominee - why do you believe they should receive the Award?

  • Why are you motivated to nominate this person?

  • What activities or actions has the nominee undertaken that stand out?

  • What difference have they made on people’s lives?

  • How have they contributed to their community and / or gone above and beyond in the work they do?

  • What motivates them to make a difference?

  • What personal challenges have they overcome?

  • Why do they inspire others?

  • How does this person make you feel?

  • How do they inspire inclusion for women / marginalized communities?

Process of Selection

  • The Selection Panel will consist of representatives from the Italo-Canadian Club of Kingston's executive board and staff 

  • Employees of the Italo-Canadian Club of Kingston, contest prize providers and sponsors, or a household member of any of the above are not eligible to enter or participate in the contest unless otherwise specified.

  • With permission, the Top 3 Nominees will have their stories published on the Italo-Canadian Club's International Women's Day campaign website and Facebook page for public voting

  • The Award will be announced and presented at the International Women's Day EmpowerMarket event on Saturday, March 9th, 2024
